Chip repair falls under comprehensive coverage

Auto glass damage is covered under comprehensive insurance, not collision. Comprehensive applies to damage that happens outside of a collision, including stone chips from road debris and cracks from temperature stress or weather damage. If you carry comprehensive coverage, chip repair is almost certainly included.

The deductible is typically waived

In Ontario, most insurers waive the deductible entirely for windshield chip repairs. Repairing a chip is significantly less expensive for the insurer than replacing a full windshield, so covering the repair cost outright makes financial sense for them. It won't affect your premium
